My father asked me if Starcrossed is autobiographical. Not directly, no. Like any other cartoonist, each of my characters has a little bit of me in them. It’s unavoidable. Charlie, I will admit, probably has a little more than usual. As Sam develops I’m sure my personality will show there too. As the strip builds some steam I’m curious to know what people who know me think.
One of my favorite comic strips is Zits, by Jerry Scott and Jim Borgman. The subject matter is always so bang on, so identifiable. The lesson I take from it is simple. Write what you know. I like to think I know myself pretty well.
